Artfully Fun Quarantine: Happy National Scribble Day!
Today is National Scribble Day! This celebratory day is all due to Diane Alber's book, "I'm Not Just a Scribble". Many of you may have heard of or read this book before. If you haven't, I highly encourage you to check it out! Scribble day is ultimately a celebration of uniqueness and self-expression.
In celebration, I've compiled a whole collection of different "scribbles" you could make at home using several different mediums.
Remember, mediums or media are the tools or materials used by an artist.
This project is not limited to the materials I've shown below. There are even more options you can most likely find somewhere in your home. So don't forget, problem solve and be creative! Think like an artist!
Here are the mediums I used today for five different types of scribbles:
-pencil
-pen
-watercolor, water, and brush
-torn or cut paper from regular printer paper, junk mail, and paper shopping bags
-colored pencil
-black marker
-scissors
-eraser
-glue stick/glue bottle
-hole-puncher
Here are some other options I either didn't have or do for this round but would be fun to experiment with:
-markers
-crayons
-pastels
-newspaper
-chalk
-tempera or acrylic paint
Kids, remember to always check with an before starting a project and using certain materials.
Once you make a scribble as crazy or calm as you'd like turn it into something! Add a face and make it into a character or creature. Add as many details as you'd like. There are no rules of what you can create. You could make one, five, or ten! They could all be on a different paper or hanging out all together on the same paper.
In the video, I show lots of different options of how to use different media. During my pencil scribble, I use an eraser to draw the face (yes, you can draw with an eraser when you have lots of filled in pencil!) and also show gluing on elements of a face. If you don't have scissors at home, that's okay! Try tearing paper or just draw the face and details with a pencil, crayon, marker, pen, etc. I could have drawn my scribble on a paper bag, or used the paper bag to make eyes and mouths...the possibilities are endless.
So, I hope you take some time to let your creativity run wild today no matter what your age!
